What defense mechanism do you usually use? Why do you think this is the case?

My mom has helped me get over my fear of heights by taking me to places with heights and letting me look down. We started off little by little, like looking at small heights, like 5 feet (which I would then work up the courage to jump from). Then I was taken to a lake house that had a 15 foot jump into the lake, and it took me forever to jump off into the water. But i eventually got over the fear of jumping off that height and I began to get over my fear.

My coaches I guess you could say have shaped me in little steps. For one, an obvious reason would be the conditioning we are put through to make us stronger to reach our goals. My coach pushed me everyday to become stronger.

A person who influenced me highly would be my mom for something simple like turning in my work. I used to not really care if it was a day or two late, but she helped me to stop doing that and I have not turned a paper in late since. It is a good habit to have and I am glad she instilled it in me.

Something I learned from my dad was to break down a goal into sub goals. In middle school I would wait until the last day to complete a project and it would always be a bare minimum grade. My dad shaped my behavior by making sure as soon as I got home I had to tell him what work was due and when. He would have me outline my week with a goal every other day up until the due date. Till this day I use this technique and it really made a big difference in my grades.

When I used to take piano lessons, my piano teacher taught me sections of a song instead of just playing the entire piece through. She shaped my behavior in this way so that I would gradually learn the song and not get too frustrated.
